Subject: Proposal for Implementing ePortfolios in the Business and Technology Pathway

Dear Business and Education Teachers and Administrators of CISD,

Currently, our campus uses Google Workspace for students to organize their assignments, projects, and other documents. I have witnessed many students searching through hundreds of files, looking for an untitled document lost in the "black hole"  that is their Google Drive. Many students do not organize their documents and projects in ways that are easily accessible. Because there is no organization, content, documents, or projects that students have devoted hours to are never to be seen again.

But, what if there was a way to teach students how to organize files and content? A project that students could build on, an authentic assessment that can be taken with them and used as a digital showcase of all the brilliant content they have created in their career pathway? There is a solution! A way where students can have "Choice, Ownership, and Voice through an Authentic Learning tool" COVA.

I am writing to propose the implementation of ePortfolios at Caldwell High School. I would like to pilot this in the Business Education Department first, then expand it to other CTE courses and eventually core classes. This will be an innovative tool that will enhance learning outcomes and build skills for students' futures. By integrating ePortfolios into our curriculum, we can provide our students with a way to show their work and reflect on their learning, while developing a digital portfolio that they can build on and take with them when they leave our school.

  • Students will use tools such as their school-issued Chromebooks and/or classroom desktops as well as other devices they have access to.

  • Students will start by using Google Workspace accounts given by the district to access Google Sites, we will also explore other platforms to create these digital portfolios.

  • Students would have a choice over publishing and/or sharing with the class and teacher. Students and teachers would have access to ePortfolios through collaborative programs such as Google Shared Drive and be able to give and receive feedback.

I am asking to pilot this idea in the Business Education department at the introductory course level, "Principles of Arts and Tech" and "Principles of Business". They would build on their portfolios as they are introduced to new courses in these pathways. Ideally, I would like to analyze and explore this, then extend this idea to all introductory CTE courses and core classes.

In today's world of technology, students must learn the skills of organizing their thoughts, reflecting, and improving their learning. Offering ePortfolios is a way that students can gather and organize their digital collection of projects, reflections, and achievements. By implementing ePortfolios, students are able to foster a deeper level of learning. They can collaborate with peers and give constructive feedback. This will give students ownership over their own learning and develop deeper critical thinking skills.

Thank you for your attention to this proposal. I am available to discuss any questions or concerns you may have. I look forward to discussing this innovative idea with you further.

Sincerely,
