COVA - Choice, Ownership & Voice through Authentic learning

Updated: Jun 30, 2023

As learners, having ownership of your ePortfolio, helps you become more invested in it. When using it with students, they have a sense of ownership and pride in their work. This enhances their motivation to actively participate in creating and maintaining their ePortfolio. Ownership also allows the learner to personalize their portfolios with their own goals, personality, and interests. It helps them gain a deeper understanding of their strengths, and what they need to improve. When your students have ownership, it promotes self-directed learning. Your students will then take charge and responsibility for their own learning. Kind of like when you own your own home vs renting a home. A homeowner is more apt to spend more time, sweat, and money upgrading and improving their home. As a renter, you are less likely to want to take pride in doing improvements.

When your students have ownership over their learning they have a sense of accomplishment and can take pride in their work. It is vital to the learner to create ownership because it promotes personalized learning, authenticity, and self-identity. Students can become active participants in their educational journey and have meaningful experiences! ePortfolios are an excellent way for learners to experience ownership over their learning. I am excited to start this with my students in the fall. I hope you join in the fun!
