Innovative or Not? That is the Question!

I try to be an innovative educator, but I know I can do better! Creating a learning environment where students work is meaningful and authentic involves incorporating real-world applications into your curriculum. You can do this by connecting lessons to relevant issues and by encouraging students' creativity. You need to provide opportunities for students to collaborate with their peers and to problem-solve. Are you an innovative educator?

Having student-teacher relationships and communication is crucial to developing an engaging classroom community. Under-communication is a significant mistake because it leads to misunderstanding and lack of engagement. When there is miscommunication, students may feel disconnected and unaware of expectations. They may be unsure of their progress and start to withdraw from classroom activities. Effective communication helps build trust and a sense of belonging. Students feel more comfortable actively participating and will exceed in learning.

Constant communication is important because it keeps students informed and engaged. They know what their expectations are and it reduces uncertainties. Educators should give timely updates and feedback, and address questions and concerns promptly. This will create a supportive and thriving environment for student learning.

Kotter's admonition to use a wide assortment of technologies and vehicles to get the message out is crucial because students are diverse and have different ways of taking in information when it comes to communication. Using a variety of tools to communicate will assure that all audiences are reached. It also increases the chance of understanding and engagement.
